My name is Danielle Channell and I am a mom of two young boys that keep me on my toes, along with my part time jobs, one of which is being a yoga teacher in the charming community of Revelstoke, BC.
I have always been an active person and was involved in a variety of sports while growing up. After I finished university I got more into individualized activities, such as running and yoga. Being active has always brought me joy and helped with my self confidence. My goal is to help people find that same feeling of joy and appreciation through movement.
I am currently a 500 hour trained yoga teacher. I completed my 200 hour Vinyasa teacher training in February of 2016, while living in Fort St. John, with Randell Lusk, owner of Blacksmith Yoga. I started teaching at the local studio right away, and have continued leading public classes ever since. In March of 2022 I completed a 300 hour yoga training centered around strength science and inclusivity. This amazing training was lead by Carly Stong and Katherine Bruni-Young, both teachers helped shape my teaching style into what it is today. Over the past year I have really worked towards making people feel welcome and heard while guiding them through vinyasa sequences. I do my best to use inclusive, trauma informed language with hopes that I create a safe place for people to move their bodies how they need and want to. Along with teaching at the Balu Yoga and Wellness yoga studio I also teach free yoga classes offered by the Revelstoke Women's Shelter Society for women in the community.
In August of 2023 I became a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM. My interest in personal training really started during my most recent yoga training, I had already been adding more weight training into my workouts and loved having another form of movement that I could enjoy. Building more strength helped support my yoga practice and long distance running, it also made me feel even more capable in my everyday life. I thought it was important that I deepened my understanding of personal training and strength building so I could successfully help others build a sustainable movement practice that worked for them and helped them lead a better quality life filled with the activities that they enjoy.
For my 300h teacher training we were required to do a presentation on topic we were interested in. It was for that project that I created my Intuitive Movement Guidelines. I had been working on repairing my relationship with food for over a year using the intuitive eating framework, and had recognized that diet culture had also effected my relationship with exercise. I used the intuitive eating framework and my own personal experience to inform my Intuitive Movement Guidelines. My goal as a personal trainer is not to convince people that they need to be in a smaller body to be healthier, but instead help them realize that they can be healthier and feel better without focusing on weight lose, by restoring trust with their body and building a movement routine that they want to keep coming back to. My guidelines are meant to help people recognize how diet culture has impacted their movement while also helping them find a healthier and more joyful relationship with movement.
